Enterprise Identity Mapping (EIM) Implementation
The IBM Enterprise Identity Mapping (EIM) Implementation service from ACS is designed to enable single sign on to multiple user registries and user identities within an enterprise. EIM architecture describes the relationships between individuals or entities (such as file and print servers) and the many identities that represent them within an enterprise.
Key Benefits
How EIM Works
Given a person's user identity in one user registry, EIM determines which user identity in another user registry represents that same person. Once the user has authenticated with a single user identity, EIM maps the user identity to the appropriate identity in another user registry - the user does not need to provide credentials for authentication again. EIM provides a generalized identity mapping function for the entire enterprise.
The Advantage of Identity Mapping
The ability to map between a user's identities in different user registries provides many benefits. Primarily, it means that applications may have the flexibility of using one user registry for authentication while using an entirely different user registry for authorization.
The use of identity mapping requires administrators complete the following tasks:
Create EIM identifiers that represent people and/or entities in their enterprise
Create EIM registry definitions that describe the existing user registries in their enterprise
Define the relationship between the user identities in those registries to the EIM identifiers that they created
EIM allows both one-to-many mappings (a single user with more than one user identity in a single user registry) and many-to-one mappings (multiple users sharing a single user identity in a single user registry, which although supported is not advised). Administrators manage EIM data in an LDAP directory, which provides the flexibility of managing the data in one place and having replicas wherever the information is used. Ultimately, EIM gives enterprises and application developers the flexibility to easily work in a wider range of environments with less cost than would be possible without this support.
The ACS Advantage
A Smooth Implementation
Detailed planning and documented methodology ensure a successful EIM Implementation. ACS Consultants carefully execute and test the implementation one step at a time to make sure all of the pieces come together smoothly. With ACS consultants, you can rest assured the job is done right, the first time.
